Care4Muscle
Care4Muscle investigates which form of muscle strength training is most effective for people with rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis or sarcopenia who suffer from muscle weakness.
The study compares two forms of training:
- Strength training aimed at increasing maximum muscle strength
- Strength training aimed at improving muscle endurance
This comparison aims to provide insight into which approach best contributes to stronger muscles and better daily functioning in these patient groups.

Goal
The aim of the Care4Muscle study is to determine, for each diagnosis (rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis or sarcopenia), which form of muscle strength training is most effective for improving muscle strength.
In addition, we are investigating whether the effects of the different forms of training are related to muscle morphology and muscle characteristics, such as mitochondrial function and inflammation levels.
This knowledge contributes to the development of more personalised training and treatment strategies, tailored to the specific characteristics of the patient.
